What it is
AOV (Average Order Value) is the average value of a single order - total revenue divided by the number of orders in a given period. The same conversion rate and the same target CPA produce very different campaign outcomes depending on whether AOV is $20 or $50, which is why this metric is always read together with CPA and margin, never on its own.
My take
In my Shopping accounts I check AOV before I check budget - below roughly 2,500 to 3,000 RSD per order, feed and campaign management costs eat the margin before optimization ever gets a chance to show results.
Example
A store with $40,000 in monthly revenue and 800 orders has an AOV of $50 ($40,000 / 800); if a $60 free-shipping threshold pushes AOV up to $55, the same budget and the same target CPA suddenly leave more profit per order.
